MHS SafeSchools Tip Today

MHS SafeSchools Tip Today

Dear Mason City Schools Family,

This afternoon, we received an anonymous SafeSchools tip that there was someone with a gun in Mason High School. We immediately alerted law enforcement, and began investigating the tip. As part of our threat assessment procedure, the police used trained dogs to inspect lockers. No firearm was found, and we were able to identify that a MHS student submitted a false tip intentionally.

Our students and staff’s safety is always our number one priority. If your child ever feels unsafe, please encourage him or her to talk with a trusted adult, or use the SafeSchools tipline. It is also important to note that it is a crime to knowingly report a false tip which induces panic. A student who induces panic faces school disciplinary action and legal ramifications.

It is very important to keep having ongoing and open conversations with your child about school safety and mental wellness. If you need support, contact your child’s school counselor or principal.

Sincerely,

Tracey Carson
