On January 25, 2011, as a result of the November 2010 levy loss and reduced state revenue, the Mason City School Board and

Administration announced a comprehensive cost reduction plan that
included changes to student transportation, beginning with the 2011-2012
school year.
Those changes will result in fewer bus stops
per subdivision for many students, while younger students will
experience very little change from what is currently in place for the
2010-2011 school year.
Bus Stop Reduction Plan
-
Grades PK-3: Some reduction of stops where possible, but very similar to what was previously in place.
-
Grades 4-6: A reduction of the number of stops, requiring a longer walk to reach the bus stop location.
-
Grades 7-8: A further reduction of stops resulting in walks of up to 1/2 mile to the bus stop.
-
Grades 9-12: A further reduction of stops resulting in walks of up to 1/2 mile to the bus stop.
