The Mason City School Board welcomed its newest member January 14. The mother of two Mason Comets, Desiree Batsche has deep Mason roots. Her in-laws moved to Mason in 1934, and her husband is Mason Municipal Judge Andrew Batsche.

“I am honored to serve our community as a member of the school board. The schools are a key element in what makes our community so great. I have had the opportunity to get to know Jonathan Cooper and Shaun Bevan and our community is very fortunate to have this team leading our schools. I am looking forward to working with them as well as the current board. Each member genuinely cares about our kids and volunteer many hours to ensure our students have all the tools and opportunities they need to succeed,” said Batsche.

Batsche shared her opinion on the March 17 levy - a key issue facing the school district.

“As a new school board member and a fiscal conservative, the information I have gathered shows that the administration has been good fiscal stewards and diligent in exhausting all

options before going to the voters with the levy proposal. The levy is necessary to maintain the current level of services and opportunities for our students. It’s inevitable and necessary for every school district, at some point, to request additional funding because of the manner in which schools are funded.”

Batsche served as the director of the Warren County Juvenile Detention Center, Business Administrator for Batsche and Batsche Law Firm, and previously served as a sergeant for the Warren County Sheriff’s Office until she made the decision to stay at home to raise her children. She has been an advisor for Warren County’s 4H horse program since 2016. She received her BA in sociology with a specialization in criminal justice and computer information science from the Ohio State University. The Batsches are the proud parents of MHS junior, AJ, and MMS eighth grader, Annie.
