Mason Police Arrest Man with Gun
Yesterday at around 1:45pm, the Mason Police Department arrested a 21-year old man with a loaded gun in the parking lot on the eastside of the Community Center.

The campus security team came into contact with an individual who was behaving suspiciously inside the Community Center. A short time later they discovered he had an active warrant through the Mason Municipal Court. While being taken into custody, it was discovered that the individual was in possession of a firearm. He was charged with possession of a deadly weapon in a school safety zone and booked into the Warren County jail.

We applaud this officer’s swift actions that are also a tribute to the City’s investment in its Campus Security Team.

Last year, as part of efforts to increase safety in the community, Mason City Council authorized the development of a Campus Security Team consisting of full time and part time Police Officers, DARE and School Resource Officers, firefighters and security personnel.  The Campus Security vision builds on the already strong partnership that exists between the City and the Mason School District to enhance safety and security throughout the schools and community.

City and School leaders are continuing to further enhance the campus security concept. Read more about the school district’s safety programs and practices, and updates that are being made post-Parkland.

Threatening Message Posted on High School Bathroom Wall

This afternoon, several students reported a threatening message that was on a boys bathroom wall at Mason High School. The message read, “Parkland 2.0 on 4/20/18.” The Mason High School administration and City of Mason Police Department are taking all steps to investigate the threat and find the culpable party. If the culpable party is a student, he or she faces school disciplinary charges, and faces a felony charge of inducing panic. We take any threat very seriously. Please talk with your child about the real and severe consequences this type of action has for his or her future.
