Project Excellence WinnersThis spring, Mason Early Childhood Center first grade Intervention Specialist Katie Brosnan and Mason Middle School science teacher Laura Tonkin were honored at the Area Progress Council's 30th Annual Project Excellence dinner at the Warren County Career Center.

Brosnan was nominated for the award by paraprofessionals and parents. “Katie demonstrates exceptional abilities in creative instructional strategies, continuous improvement and leadership. Katie goes above and beyond, working late nights and weekends to come up with creative ways to teach our special needs students. She is a fantastic role model for everyone, and she is a caring, motivational leader who inspires all who enters her room," shared paraprofessional Michelle Lowery.

MECC Principal Melissa Bly had this to say about Brosnan: "Katie is a creative, nurturing and energetic teacher! She always puts the needs of her students first and works hard to foster their growth every day!"

Tonkin was nominated by fellow MMS science teacher, Kristyn Keriazes.“Laura has transformed her room this year to focus even further on what is best for the students. She is employing new personalization strategies that allows each learner to use their passions to enhance their learning. She bravely takes risks and tries new instructional techniques. She is excited about helping students reach their potential, and takes her own time to help explain her theories and processes with other teachers," explained Keriazes

MMS Principal Tonya McCall had this to say about Tonkin: "Laura Tonkin has been teaching for 13 years and every year for her is brand new. She is continually looking for ways to modify her course to increase the learning opportunity for her students.  Laura’s willingness to learn about her students, their needs, and interests is really what separates her from many other educators.  She takes a deep interest in the success of every student and uses her connection to her students to deepen their learning experiences."
