MCS students compete on First Lego League State Champion team

The Robb RangersThe Robo Rangers, a local team of ten kids from the Liberty TWP, Mason and West Chester areas, won the FIRST LegoLeague OHIOState FIRST Championship award on February 4.  

The team placed first out of the 554 teams that competed in Ohio and will now advance to the FIRST World Championship Tournament in Detroit, MI April 25-28. At Worlds there will be 18,000 students from 83 countries that will compete and share innovative solutions in front of a crowd of more than 40,000 in the COBOCenter in Detroit.

Mason City Schools team members on Robo Rangers include Mason Intermediate fifth graders Girish Murali and Shishir Tumukuntala, and sixth grader Rishika Jeyaprakash, and Mason Middle School seventh grader Bhuvan Meruga.

FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) LEGO League is a STEM-based competition for teams of fourth through eighth graders that involves a multi-tier tournament in three elements – Core Values, Project, and Robotics Design & Programming.

The Robo Rangers also won the Thunderhawks Regional Championship award at Lakota East in December, and competed with 23 other teams to advance to the District Tournament at iSpace covering the South West Ohio region.

The Robo Rangers team formed by Lisa Williamson consists of ten kids, five girls and five boys, ages 10 – 12, from and around the Cincinnati area.
