Stock Market Game WinnersMason Intermediate sixth graders in Joan Davis's gifted class have succeeded where many have failed-- in the stock market!

A four-student team of Davis's that participated in the Stock Market Game, sponsored by the University of Cincinnati Center of Economics, won the fall competition, beating out 533 other Ohio elementary, middle, and high school teams. The winning MI sixth graders included Jack Berry, Ryan Feuerborn, Daud Malik, and Sachet Pati.

"By participating in this game, the students experienced first hand how our economy works and how several factors can affect stock prices," shared Davis.  "The best part is that they had fun while learning a great deal about finance and economics that will be useful to their everyday lives!"

The fall session ran from October 2 - Dec 8, 2017. Teams have the opportunity to buy and sell stocks on the first day of the competition. The team that has the highest portfolio value at the end of the competition is the winner!

The Stock Market Game™ program is an online market simulation allowing students to manage a virtual stock portfolio with real-time data and compete against other teams and schools regionally. This game encourages students to get engaged in the content, with a competitive twist, all while teaching them the fundamentals of economics and topics on saving and investing.

"They won target gift cards and are invited to present at the Portfolio Challenge at UC in the spring to possibly win a trip to New York City. We and they are very excited about this accomplishment!" shared Davis.
