Kim, Christa and Mindy“The Mason Schools Foundation is honored to recognize these amazing teachers in a year with a record number of heartfelt nominations!” said Mason Schools Foundation President Mindy Patton. "Ms. Yoda and Dr. Ewing's efforts go way "above and beyond" and we are grateful for all that they do for our Comet Family!"

Below are excerpts from some of the nominations.

Word from Nominators about Christa Yoda

"Last year when she realized that [my daughter's] educational setting could be refined to meet her needs even more specifically, Mrs. Yoda piloted a new classroom setting for MI, and Applied Classroom... For students lik e[my daughter] who have cognitive delays but do well academically when curriculum is properly adapted, the Applied Classroom setting has been perfect. [My daughter] is learning fourth grade math concepts, but at her level, in a small setting with peers at the same academic level. The same setting is also provided for reading. But let me be perfectly clear, this program DOES NOT in any way isolate [my daughter] from her typical peers."

Word from Nominators about Mr. Ewing

This year, "
Mr. Ewing stepped up and lead the Wind Symphony to a phenomenal performance in Chicago, taught at both the Intermediate level and High School, traveling between the two schools on a daily basis and providing exceptional education to each student regardless of his/her ability. He organized the first ever Regional Concert Band Festival at Mason providing an educational experience to hundreds of high school and middle school band students from around the region."

"...he also inspired us to be the best we could through holding 'book clubs' with us before band class. He would read us stories from intellectually intriguing and/or philosophical novels and use this to improve our music education and also to help us become more thoughtful, creative and kind."
